The Louvre

Explore the world-famous Louvre museum, which can sometimes be a daunting place, with an expert guide. Indeed, thousands of works of art are on display from Antiquity to the mid nineteenth century. For a first time visit, enjoy the highlights on a guided tour, to save time. In any cas, to avoid crowds, choose the Secret Louvre. Or take a tour shedding light women’s role in art.

Musee d'Orsay

Orsay museum has delightful works from famous impressionist artists like Monet, Manet, Degas, Cézanne, Pissaro, Sisley, Renoir to post-impressionists like Gauguin and Van Gogh. A tour of the highlights is a good start. Then, for a different perspective, take a tour related to women painters and female role models.

Musee de l'Orangerie

A well-known museum for Monet’s Waterlilies. Nonetheless, the Walter-Guillaume collection offers approximately 150 paintings by Cezanne, Renoir, Matisse, Modigliani and Picasso. For a different point of view, take a tour about female characters  such as Marie Laurencin and her model Coco Chanel, or Domenica, probably the most incredible woman at the origin of this collection.

Musee RODIN

Rodin museum is set in a splendid mansion from the 18th century, surrounded by a pleasant and peaceful garden, where Rodin’s collection is on display. As usually, a tour of the highlights is available for first-time visitors. Another tour is available, mainly related to incredible women in Rodin’s life, like Camille Claudel, his student and lover, and his female model.

musee MARMOTTAN-MONET

The Marmottan-Monet museum, a private townhouse with a wonderful Empire-style decor, accomodates a fantastic collection or artworks. Certainly, Monet’s paintings are the main interest for most visitors, even though a whole room is dedicated to an astonishing female artist, Berthe Morisot. In addition, admire a few canvases by their friends such as Renoir, Pissaro, Guillaumin, Caillebotte and Sisley.

Musee Jacquemart-Andre

Located in a magnificent Second Empire private mansion decorated with 18th century art pieces, Jacquemart-Andre is a must-see museum. Built by an art lover couple, their collection of Italian Renaissance works is a major one in France. As they were fond of the 18th century, they decorated their home with magnificent furniture and paintings dating back to that period.

My favorite museums

The Louvre is for sure the most famous museum in Paris but there are some less visited places also worthwhile. Visit Jacquemart-Andre museum which offers at the same time some fantastic Renaissance art pieces, furniture and decor dating back to the 18th century. This is one of the most marvellous mansions of Paris, where many receptions were made in the 19th century. Let me explain you the extraordinary life of Nelie Jacquemart who was one of the few female painters of the period. Rodin museum is also one of my favourite museum for its setting, its peaceful garden and the fantastic works done by one of the major sculptor of France. Camille Claudel, Rodin’ student and lover was an excellent artist too. Get a specific tour related with these exceptional women in both museums. Furthermore don’t miss the Musee d’Orsay where women are so often represented.
