Vaux le Vicomte
Privately owned by the same family since 1875, Vaux-le-Vicomte, is a remarkably well preserved palace. Due to Louis XIV’ s minister of Finances, Nicolas Fouquet, its splendor brought about his downfall. The team of artists he employed here, were going to create later, the splendid chateau de Versailles. The French style garden designed by Andre le Notre, prefigures also the garden at Versailles. Combine this visit with the chateau de Fontainebleau, very close, on a full-day tour.

My favorite trips around Paris
Join me on one of my favourite guided trips around Paris. Enjoy a visit of la Malmaison, the splendid house where Napoleon and Josephine resided during the Consulate. Monet’s garden at Giverny is a very relaxing and peacefull area, at lunch time especially. Vaux-le-Vicomte is according to me the best palace to discover outside Paris, contemporary to Versailles, but less busy.
