MONTMARTRE
Montmartre is the perfect quarter to stroll around and you are going to appreciate the charm of this old village with winding narrow paved streets. The most picturesque parts are certainly place du Tertre where artists display their works, following in the footsteps of Picasso, Renoir, Modigliani and Van Gogh and the basilica of the Sacre Cœur.
THE MARAIS DISTRICT
Old aristocratic quarter of Paris, near the place de la Bastille, full of history and anecdotes, this is probably one of the most interesting parts of the capital. Even though the main attraction is the architecture with its elegant mansions from the past, today it is a very trendy area, full of shops and restaurants. You will be delighted by the Marais quarter.
SAINT GERMAIN DES PRES
Located on the Left Bank, called the intellectual part of Paris, Saint Germain des Pres is undoubtedly a must-see area. The church is considered as the oldest one in the city with its romanesque tower. Paved little streets and squares, are part of the charm of this district full of history.
THE LATIN QUARTER
Well-preserved area, well-known for its lively atmosphere, the Latin Quarter is going to delight you. Numerous cafes and restaurants are located around old buildings and churches. Narrow streets meander towards Sainte Genevieve’s hill with the Pantheon on top and Roman constructions spread at the bottom.
THE covered passages
Go back to the 19th century when elegant ladies and gentlemen strolled in the covered passages of Paris. Walk under the Palais Royal colonnades with their old shops to reach the garden with its roses and fountain. Less than twenty arcades can be visited today over more than sixty in the past. But they are all different and worthwhile.
LA DEFENSE DISTRICT
Located in the city limits of Paris along the historical axis, La Defense is one of the largest European Business districts. It was created at the end of the 1950’s. Frequented by thousands of daily workers and millions of tourists every year, they enjoy the quietness of the neighbourhood, and its major open air museum.
My favorite walking tours
Join me on one of my favourite walking tours around the Marais quarter and its amazing old mansions. The Place des Vosges is undoubtedly the most magnificent square of Paris to me.
The covered passages with its old fashioned shops and architecture dating back to the 19th century, show reminiscence of French writers like Maupassant, Proust or Colette.
